This is a 1930 Ford Model A Deluxe Roadster imported directly to South Africa from the Canadian Ford Factory. As a Canadian built Ford, she is an original right-hand drive car and hasn’t been mucked about with. As a drop head and Roadster Deluxe, she is quite rare. With a ready supply of spares from the ’States it makes her a reliable and economic motor car. She landed in PE in January 1930 and then made her way up to the Highveld. In testimony to her longevity she has her strong original 3.3 litre engine and her original pistons. She seats 4: 2 in the front and 2 in the rear Dickey Seat (reserved for your friends, or “Dicks!” as the owner chirped). The car has recently been carefully and meticulously rebuilt and many of her original parts removed and examined and passed fit, are still working, as they should be, “Strong and well,” as Henry Ford would have said. “Have you heard people talk about a Ford Model A? They go on and on, and on.” The refurbishment of this A, at a cost on excess of R120k by Heritage Motors and Mike’s Antique Autos (direct importers of Ford spares), is well documented and is available for viewing along with a collection of useful books about the history of the car and its mechanical and electrical simplicity which are included in her price. All replacement parts were sourced directly from Ford in America and are the best American spares. The owner of the vehicle has taken “Joy,” so named after her number plate to rallies, breakfasts, lunches, shows, and to the shops, for a run. She’s been garaged and properly serviced and cared for. The owner is a member of the Vintage and Veteran Car Club and The Model A Club of South Africa.
