This split window Kombi has 3 rows of bench seats finished in a combination of beige & white vinyl upholstery. The 1st generation of the type 2 was produced from 8 March 1950 through to the end of the 1967 model year. The early minibus was one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans popular on today’s roads. In 1961, the Type 2 Kombi received a 1493cc 42bhp flat four engine, plus improved brakes and suspension. Due to its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960’s it still remains iconic for hippies today. The first gen. of the Volkswagen type 2 with the split windshield was informally called the “Splitscreen” or “Splittie”. The Samba or 23 window Splittie has become the most sort after, commanding huge prices amongst collectors.
