Description
This 1963 Volkswagen Type 2 split window Deluxe is finished in navy blue and two tone off white coachwork. This split window Deluxe has 3 rows of bench seats finished in a combination of black & white vinyl upholstery. This Deluxe was the premium model in the range and was fitted with polished aluminium trim on the beltline. 2 more windows were added on each side, and 2 wraparound windows at the rear on models up until 1963. It was possible to order the 15 window Deluxe with skylight windows, (Samba’s) bringing it up to 23 windows. The early minibus was one of the forerunners of the modern cargo and passenger vans popular on today’s roads. Due to its popularity during the counterculture movement of the 1960’s it still remains iconic for hippies today. The first gen. of the Volkswagen type 2 with the split windshield was informally called the “Splitscreen” or “Splittie”.
