1951 Jaguar Mark V

R435,000

The Jaguar Mark V is from days gone by where the marque owned by Royalty and Statesman alike. The Design of the flowing lines and long bonnet were key to its luxurious look and feel that we don’t often see in modern cars.

The first Jag was only seen in September of 1935 in the form of the 2 ½ Litre Super Saloon, which was the start to a brand and history of building Saloon cars until our present day.
Several years after the 1922 we move forward in the History of Jaguar to 1948 and the production of the Mark V. These cars were built from 1948 to 1951 in a 4-door saloon and a 2-door drophead coupe that could seat 5 adults in luxury.
The Mark V was the first Jaguar to have independent front suspension, first with hydraulic brakes, first to be offered with sealed headlamps and flashing turn signals for the important American market, but the last model to use the pushrod engines.

Now that we have looked at the history of the marque let look in the provenance of our Jaguar.
The build of this completed on the 24 April 1951 and despatched to Gilman & Co in Hong Kong. The First owners were not recorded but the American Embassy in Ceylon (present day Ski Lanka) owned the car and was allocated to LaRue R Lutkins in 1962, The Vehicle followed with him to South Africa where he was the USA Consul General from 1969 to 1973. The Jag was sold to Mr IC Botha in 1973 and then sold to her current owner in October of 2008,
She is a mechanically sound vehicle considering her age and has also had a full frame off restoration in her life, as she was originally painted black from the factory. She has extensive records of the ownership and of work that has been conducted over the years, the most recent been in May of this year.

Besides this graceful lady having a great documented history and that she has been well maintained, this Jaguar is a piece of art and a heritage collector item sure to gain in value in time.
