Looking to venture into the classic car life and love open top motoring? Then we have the answer for you. We think you should look at this Austin-Healey, but let’s come back to the car shortly and look at the company that built this little sports car.

This British sports car came about out of a joint Austin which is a part of BMC and the Donald Healey Motor Company given the world a brand Austin Healey. They built primarily open top sports cars that were successful in track racing both in Europe at Le Mans and in the USA at Sebring, which bring me to our little car.
She started life as what is commonly known as the Frogeye Sprite with the lights bulging from the centre of the one-piece metal bonnets that opened from the front, these bonnets where often damage and replaced with ones made from fibreglass, yet our car has a tribute bonnet to the Sebring cars that were more aerodynamic and sportier.
Our little 948cc is spritely with its twin SU carbs and free flowing exhaust, she is just willing to please the driver. Added to this sportiness looks is a set of 13-inch wire wheels in white with a disk brake conversion that has been retro fitted for safety. Naturally been a Healey the suspension is crisp and direct, making sure the car is well connected to the tarmac.

As a contrast to the white paintwork this racer has been fitted with a red interior making sure you remember that you are about to a bucket of fun with your bum only a couple of inches of the ground

So in summary if you are young or a little older this 65 year old Sprite is sure to still get your heart racing, at 50 mph you will feel like you are going twice that speed with the wind blowing in your hair and just making you smile from the coastline to the winding roads of the hills of the highveld with people turning their heads and waving as the smile back to you.
