Introduced in 1959 in response to the success of the Ford Ranchero pickup, its first run lasted only two years. The 1959 El Camino was promoted as the first Chevrolet pickup built with a steel bed floor instead of wood. The 1959 El Camino’s passenger car underpinnings gave unrestricted access to Chevrolet’s available engines. The 283 ci V8 with 2 or 4 barrel carburettors were among the engine options creating 250 and 290 horse power respectively. Extremely rare worldwide, this El Camino is very collectible and very sought after especially in right hand drive.
