When you see a Cadillac of this period, only the original Elvis comes to mind, and like him, this is an original low mileage Caddy but not pink which was his colour of choice. Although had claimed a number of 200 of cars, so surely there was a Deville Convertible in that Number.
The Cadillac Company was found way back in 1902 by Henry Leland, and one can say they changed the way vehicles are mass produced but using interchangeable parts, which in turn won them the prestigious Dewar Trophy from the Royal Automobile Club of England and made them the first American Company to receive this award.
The Deville name has been carried by the company from 1958 till 2005 and has always been in the top tier of the American Luxury Automotive seen. Our Deville falls in the second generation of the name, and they were built between 61 and 64. Over these years the vehicle received minor facelifts but 1965 was the end of era tail fins on the Cadillacs.
Now that we have had a history lesson let’s actually talk about the Convertible at hand. This low mileage documented car was imported about 7 years ago into South Africa by a collector that has just run out of space, hence the sale. But that’s just a fact and not a show that he didn’t love the car. And yes, there is a lot of love about the yard-long, barn-wide luxury America sledge. They are not known for being small cars and the say “It drives like a Cadillac” rings so true for this car.
When opening the door you know that this is a solid Detroit Steel Car, and slipping into the front seat you know that you have reached a luxury status, the roomy driver position with the straightforward no nonsense instruments feeding you with unnecessary information as you are just there to drop the top and cruise down the boulevards of the beach so be seen and heard as little as the 427Ci just ticks over making power effortlessly as its floats down the road like a land yacht.
The long straight lines of the body even seem to give this Caddy motion standing still, It’s like a piece of American Art that must be appreciated in the flesh and will grow on you like a fine wine.
We know that Cadillacs aren’t everyone’s taste, but you should come in, have a look and see if the Deville would fit you.
Interesting trade-in’s will be considered.
