What a time it’s was in the 60’s…The Valiant was the top-selling car in South Africa from 1966 to 1968 – outselling Volkswagen’s popular, cheaper 1500 model as well as any other vehicle sold in the country. When Valiant’s 11,862 sales overcame all competitors, it was the first time in twenty years an American car was the best-selling car in South Africa. Unbelievable! And now, 50’s years on it’s a very uncommon sight on the roads, let along in a garage.
The Chrysler Valiant was sold by Chrysler Australia between 1962 and 1981. The first cars were Plymouth Valiants from America, assembled and rebadged in Australia. From the second-generation cars, launched in 1963, the Valiant was fully manufactured in Australia. It was sold locally and exported to New Zealand and South Africa. The engine used in the Barracuda was the 3,7L “slant-6” with some two and four-barrel versions
This vehicle has a low owner history where it’s now on its 3rd owner. The story tells of it being hidden in a basement for 20yrs of its life and judging by the near new fresh original interior, that checks out. It’s got the highly desirable factory optional Rallye Sport wheels which just finish off this sumptuous shape so nicely.
A great opportunity to own a magnificent “pony car” from the sixties!
