Welcome to our little boy racer of a Mini Clubman. Yes, it looks the part and like all MINI’s handles on rails thanks to the cleaver Hydro elastic suspension, but we will come back to this sport boy shortly, Let’s dig a little into the racing past of MINI over the years before the Clubman was even thought of.
Minis are known Giant kills and in the right hands and the right type of track a MINI can been driven hard and even pass the Porsches and Ford Mustangs. And if you have ever seen club historic racing from around the world you are sure to have seen a MINI is a sideways drift passing some car that is twice their size. MINI’s have even won the Monte Carlo Rally, as well as been in the top 5 between 1962 and 1968 as well as driven by top racers like Paddy Hopkick and John Love. Besides being a great racer, The MINI was the runner up to been Car of the Century only to be trumped by the Ford Model T.
Well, let’s get to driving this beautiful 1275E. The former owner being a bit of a racer himself customized this MINI to be a head turner, and that was definitely achieved. From the Racing Red paintwork to the Union Jack on the roof and the spotlights upfront there is a lot to take in. This theme was then carried into the interior with the Grey and Black seats with its red piping. And then it’s the SPARCO Steering wheel which is an outstanding feature.
Now that we in the Hot seat and ready to drive, turn the key and hit the Start button and the 1275cc engine comes to life and we’re ready to look for those twisty roads where this MINI is most happy giving you plenty of grip from the 13” EVO Mini-light wheels wrapped in Yokohama rubber and the braking is provided by a set of Disk brakes on the front. What this all boils down to is a good all-rounder of a drive car that could be driven daily and then one the weekend holds its own at a car show or track day
Interesting trade-in’s will be considered.
