The Yamaha V-Max cruiser motorcycle was produced by Yamaha from 1985 all the way up until 2020 where the model was discontinued. The name told you all you needed to know about the bike, being all about a cruiser dedicated to speed. The V-Max was sold with only minor modifications from the 1985 model year until the 2007 model year and was arguably the definitive muscle bike.
The 2002 V-MAX retains the successful 70-degree V4 architecture for its 1198cc liquid-cooled 16-valve engine mated to a 5-speed transmission with a hydraulic clutch and shaft final drive. Add in air-assisted forks, rebound and spring preload adjustability for the dual rear shocks for an even more exhilarating riding experience. The technical highlight of the 1,198cc V4 was “V-Boost”, a system of servo-operated butterfly valves that connected the intake manifolds of each pair of cylinders. It simulated the effect of a supercharger at high RPMs as the cylinder in the intake stroke would get the air and fuel from two carbs at once.
